Building Team Commitment
Have you ever heard, "we need strong management
commitment?" How about, "we could use
a little more employee commitment here?"
Commitment does not just happen. You have to build
it and nurture it. You don't get commitment by
sending a memo demanding it. You can institute
enforcement that way, but enforcement will not take
you as far as commitment.
Commitment starts with a clear shared vision, along
with agreement on how to achieve the vision. Once
you have understanding and agreement and agreement,
you need to figure out what's in it for the people doing
the work. Without some personal interest, it is
unlikely the commitment will be high.
Accountability is the next essential step. What
are your objective, numeric measurements of success?
This workshop takes your team through the four-step
process of building commitment on your team:
- Develop common understanding of a clear shared vision
- Take the time to find agreement
- Look for the the personal interest of each team
member
- Establish personal accountability through meaningful
measurements
Finally, have fun. People want to go to work
to achieve success. When achieving success is
fun, you cannot stop your team from performing.
