Focused Supervision and Leadership

A Powerful 5 Days of Advanced Management Training

Back in the nineteen-hundreds lines of authority were clear. Today, authority and accountability are confused by things like matrix management and virtual teams. Even so, work has to get done and somebody is held accountable for results. Supervision is looking a lot more like leadership. How do you get people to want to do what you want them to do? How do you get commitment when tools of enforcement are limited?

This workshop is broken into focused modules, starting with an understanding of the skills and attitudes of individual contributors. We then look at work styles. Some people are very goal oriented, looking for shortcuts and more efficient ways to get quick results. Others are more methodical in their approach to work and let the process guide them towards the goal. Next we deal with conflict in a constructive way. Bright committed people will always disagree about important details, even when they all want to achieve the same goal. Our goal is not to resolve or manage the conflict, but to keep it constructive so something good can come out of it. No management class would be complete without a good look at diversity in the workplace. People come from different backgrounds and have different expectations. We learn to listen to the other person and respond with respect.

The format of this workshop is interactive with a balance of lecture and discussion. When a group of supervisors from your organization take this workshop together, they learn from each other and form their own network for getting things done. We can do it all in one week, or break it into multiple sessions, based on your needs.
