Strategic Planning
Helping you create a sustainable strategic advantage
In today's fast paced and changing environment, organizations
are looking for ways to increase or maintain their strategic
advantage in the market. Do we grow? Do we offer additional
products and services in the future? Who will succeed
our current management team? How do we maintain the
values that supported our success to this point?
The answers to these questions and many others are discovered
through the strategic planning process.
What Strategic Planning is
and isn't
Strategic planning helps your organization set your
long-term goals (3-5 years), specify required resources,
and the broad actions you need to take to meet your
goals.
In a sense, strategic planning is like planning road
trip where you set a destination and then figure out
what it will take to arrive at your destination on time
and within budget.
Strategic planning is not a big, hoary meeting
that takes place once every three years where a select
group secretly plots the future of the organization.
Nor is it about creating an enormous document that is
so complex and convoluted it's only real use is as a
doorstop.
Strategic Planning the Teams on Target Way
At Teams on Target, we see strategic planning as a collaborative
process that creates a compelling vision for the company's
future. It is also a dynamic process that enables organizations
to respond and adapt to a constantly changing world.
Our strategic planning process addresses three stages:
Stage 1: Information Gathering
Strategic planning is a meeting of the minds, so face-to-face
meeting time is required, but also research and data
is needed to back up assumptions.
Teams On Target identifies data requirements such as
competitor analysis, market trends, and customer feedback
with senior executives to confirm focus and to prepare
all participants.
In addition, we complete an internal assessment with
the executives and department heads (operations, marketing,
sales and administration) covering performance metrics,
managerial reports, and financial results.
Stage 2: Developing the Strategic Plan
A strategic plan is a clear and compelling vision,
a picture of the company's dynamic future.
This future vision is developed through an intensive,
intentional 2-day meeting focused entirely on the future
of your organization. We facilitate the session to discover
both the potential disagreement as well as the alignment
between the leaders of the company.
Strategic planning sessions are designed and facilitated
with rich discussion of the choices and options. Leaders
determine their long-range priorities and then identify
the resources and staff that will be allocated to achieve
the strategic goals.
Stage 3: Implementing
The strategy is clarified, documented and there is step-by-step
process to communicate the company's strategy to the
next level of managers.
Senior leaders will be supported with tools, talking
points and handouts to orchestrate meetings of 20 employees
(small groups) to introduce the strategic plan, identify
the resources the firm will be allocating to the strategic
goals and support employees in understanding their role
and responsibility within the plan.
Each department then builds their plan of action in alignment
with the corporate strategy and crafts their own departmental
goals and tactics to achieve the vision.
The Teams on Target Difference
The strategic process led by Marilyn Laverty, a master
facilitator, workshop leader, and business consultant
with over 20 years of experience in the areas of profitability
through strategic planning, corporate vision, and business
process excellence.
Along with her experience and knowledge, Marilyn is
exceptional in her ability to bring out the best in
those who work with her. For this reason, strategy sessions
are:
Highly productive. Participants engage in discussions
resulting in concrete decisions and plans.
Developmental. Participants acquire critical
strategic planning skills, tools, and resources.
Inspiring. With an exciting vision for the company's
future and broad steps to achieve the vision, executives,
managers, and employees can see how they fit into the
future and how they will contribute to making the vision
a reality..
